The early season goal has been the 85km Tarawera Ultra Marathon (www.taraweraultra.co.nz) in New Zealand, as she seeks to gain the qualification requirements to take part in the legendary Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc®
Penny Comins is making progress. The triathlete turned Ultra runner (for 2015 anyway!), has been testing out her preparation for the 85km Tarawera Ultra Marathon by racing in a 26 km event, the Tussock Traverse (www.tussocktraverse.co.nz). Despite doubts about her training times and feeling she was 'flying'-consistency works.
After a hectic year which included Ironman South Africa, Norseman and Kona, Penny Comins looked set to keep up with the endurance challenges when she set herself a challenge of the Manaslu Mountain Trail Race- as part of a qualification route for the infamous Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc. Could she keep it going? No!
Following a busy year which has included Norseman and Ironman Hawaii in her last blog. Penny Comins revealed that her next challenge was a 216 kilometre ultra with over 14 kilometres of climbing involved at over 3,500 meters of altitude.
We've been following her progress since she got news she had a Kona spot, and now Penny Comins is in Hawaii and almost ready to race. What will it take her her to have her best race? As a rookie, she has sought to find out by asking a host of professional athletes and experienced experts to build-up her pre-race knowledge...how to succeed in Kona?
