What does a picture of me in a bikini have to do with business?

Someone said to me this week, 'your Instagram feed is confusing - are you a model, an athlete or a writer?'. It shook me. 

I thought I was being obvious...

I help established online business owners create standout sales copy so that they can easily attract quality leads and convert them into profitable clients and customers.

But then, what does that have to do with me in a bikini? Or on a bike? Or running....

All of a sudden, it was glaringly obvious! 

I was not specific enough about who I work with. I knew in my head, but that wasn't clear enough to the people following me.

It got me thinking...

How many times do we communicate and think we know people will know? Yet what we believe is clear to ourselves isn't to them. We see it in our relationships all the time. For example - how many times have you said out your plate IN the dishwasher, not on the top of the bench, to your partner? Instead, if we said, 'if you put your dishes in the dishwasher, it saves us all time (and stops me from fuming all morning!), then it might happen - the communication is clear.

This is why your written word online needs to be clear and concise. You need to know what levers to pull with your copy AND match the graphics or video content to get people going from liking a post to engaging and becoming a client. Same as dishes on the bench (liking a post) to IN the dishwasher (DM'ing you to book a call or buy your passive product). It all comes down to how you say it.  

So this week, I am going through my ever-evolving website (note - don't ask your boyfriend to redesign your site when he'd rather be playing golf!) and my social media to make sure you KNOW who I serve and what services I offer.
